Less than a month after Avelo Airlines announced the launch of its new base at Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport (STS), today the airline announced the following routes will be launched from STS in May 2024: Boise (BOI, Idaho), Kalispell (FCA, Montana), Portland/Salem McNary Field (SLE, Oregon), and Pasco (PSC, Washington). All of the flights will be operated by Avelo’s Boeing 737-700 and -800s.
The STS-SLE flight is a significant addition for SLE, as Avelo was the first scheduled air carrier to return to the airport in late 2023, 15 years after Delta withdrew its own service in 2008. According to the Salem Reporter, the city of Salem received and committed funds from both federal and local sources since at least 2022 in its bid to revive airport infrastructure and attract scheduled air service again. Since restoring scheduled service at SLE, Avelo continues to be the sole scheduled passenger carrier serving this airport, and the new flight from STS will be SLE’s third scheduled destination.
